Local counties wisely adopt Next Generation 911 (PA)

Elected officials are bringing “next generation” emergency communication technology to the region, and that benefits everyone who finds themselves in an emergency and the first responders sent to help.

The Union County Commissioners voted to join the internet-based “Next Generation 911” (NG911) system last week and Snyder County Commissioner Joe Kantz said his board was planning to vote on the plan this week to integrate the technology into the Central Susquehanna Regional 911 Center, which serves all of Union and Snyder counties and the northern portion of Northumberland County…

European Public Safety Broadband Communications Infrastructure Project Broadway Reaches New Milestone

28 June 2021 marked the official end of the Solution Prototype Phase (Phase 2) of the BroadWay PCP, with the notification of end of phase 2 results to the three competing consortia – Airbus DS, Frequentis AG and Leonardo S.p.A. Throughout Phase 2, the consortia were tasked with developing, installing, technically testing and practitioner evaluation of their prototypes. The consortia were subject to regular monitoring during Phase 2, which culminated in technical testing and evaluation of their solutions in April, and submission of end of phase reports shortly afterwards.

After evaluation of the end of phase deliverables, the Group of Procurers awarded a successful status to all three consortia, meaning that they were subsequently invited to participate in the call-off competition for entry into the Pilot Phase (Phase 3), which launched on 30 June 2021. The consortia have until Monday 2 August 2021 to submit individual offers in which they address an updated set of objectives set by the Group of Procurers for the development of live pilot systems within the scope of Phase 3…

Stronger leadership at BC Emergency Health Services will include the appointment of former Vancouver police chief Jim Chu as chair of a board focused on the ambulance service and Leanne Heppell as the new chief ambulance officer…

Stephen Whitaker: State has botched 10-year telecommunications plan (VT)

This commentary is by Stephen Whitaker of Montpelier, an author who has worked for 30 years on integrating planning, government transparency and accountability, public records access and more recently utility networks resiliency.

Vermont finally has a newly adopted 10-year telecommunications plan, the first since 2004, noncompliant with statute on nearly every count, and based on the erroneous assumptions that most business users and public safety communications needs are in “pretty good shape.”

We can all thank Gov. Scott, Matt Dunne/RISI, CTC Technology and Engineering and the corrupt, incompetent Public Service Department for our broadband quagmire and derailed public safety communications resilience trajectory…
