With their city contract about to expire, emergency dispatchers are calling for increases in pay and staffing levels to handle local 911 calls.

Ryan Ballard, a Denton High School assistant football coach, was arrested Wednesday and charged with silent or abusive calls to a 911 service in connection with a 2020 incident.
Ballard posted $1,000 bail and was released the same day.
Officers were initially dispatched to a noise complaint made by Ballard at 9:57 p.m. on July 31, 2020. Ballard complained about the noise level coming from a neighbor’s home and, per the arrest affidavit, said if officers did not do something, he would go over and do something about it…

Toledo 911 dispatchers offered pay in place of vacation time
A deputy fire chief writes, “This is just one of several options that is in play, in order to maintain staffing with as little impact as possible.”
Some Toledo 911 dispatchers are being offered the option to forego vacation and take pay instead.
In a letter dated June 17, 2021, Toledo Fire and Rescue Department Deputy Chief Damon Williams wrote:
“Due to resignations, we cannot allow the vacation trades to occur because it would put additional stress on you to cover the overtime created from those moves.”

DENVER — An Aurora man who says he was hit by an alleged drunk driver on Friday night reached out to Denver7 saying the driver was neither questioned or apprehended by police. Nestor Guillen said he was driving home from his work shift at 3 a.m. on Saturday morning when another driver swerved and hit him. He said after both got out of their cars, the driver of the other car started disposing of beer bottles and cans.
But he said after several calls to 911 and the station’s non-emergency line, he was told that his call was not a priority and that an officer would be free once they became available.
