SOUTHBOROUGH – Southborough took the next step in exploring the possibility of regionalizing its public safety dispatch services Oct. 5.
The study, to be done over six months, will gather data on the feasibility of establishing or joining a regional emergency communications center. The possible collaborating towns are Hopkinton, Hudson, Grafton, Marlborough, Westborough and Southborough.

Pay increases are coming to officers and telecommunicators with the Fayetteville Police Department early next year after council members were satisfied with a presentation at their work session that showed wages in the city are below those at neighboring law enforcement agencies.
Fayetteville’s Human Resource Development Director Jerry Clipp presented the proposal to the council and recommended thatpay be increased to compete with other law enforcement agencies in the region.

CENTERVILLE — The Centerville Police Department announced on Thursday that its dispatch center can now accept text messages through its 911 system.
Centerville Police Chief Matt Brown said, “Voice 911 calls are still preferred, but texting offers another option for those with hearing impairments or who cannot safely call 911. It is best to remember call when you can, text when you can’t.”
The 911 texting feature is available for anyone who lives within the city limits of Centerville and West Carrollton…
Pittsylvania County is experiencing an uptick in 911 calls that aren’t true emergencies, compounding an already stressed health care system reeling from the coronavirus pandemic and exodus of medical professionals.
Pittsylvania County Public Safety is asking residents to seek the “appropriate level of care” when sick or injured.
“It is essential that we reserve the highest level of medical care, both at the hospital and from our county EMS providers, for those that truly need it,” said Chris Slemp, director of Pittsylvania County Public Safety. “We encourage anyone who is experiencing a true medical emergency to call 911, and we will provide the best service to that patient as quickly as we can.”
However, the county’s 911 dispatch center is receiving about 100 more calls a month compared to about two years ago, and “many of these are for people who don’t necessarily need emergency services,” county leaders wrote in a news release…

The Santa Barbara City Council approved City Fire Chief Chris Mailes’s proposal to join a regional fire communications facility during its weekly meeting Tuesday.
The six council members in attendance justified the dispatch center’s $800,000 annual price tag by considering the benefit of teaming up with neighboring departments.
