The University of Cincinnati’s (UC) Office of Public Safety has upgraded its emergency communications system to send campus-wide alerts more efficiently.
UC’s Communications Center has transitioned away from a web-based alert system and can now send out safety alerts with the press of a button, officials said in a release on Jan. 31.
Dispatchers can press these buttons, developed by the Maryland-based Alertus Technologies, to alert the campus community of an active attacker, a police emergency or a non-police emergency, such as a fire, officials said… READ MORE

In 2018, a Harvey County dispatcher helped deliver a baby. A call came into the 911 center from a rural residence near Whitewater — a baby was coming and help was needed.
Dispatcher Courtney Becker started talking with the caller, thinking an ambulance would arrive and EMS would take over. However, the baby arrived before EMS.

Verizon’s Andres Irlando is officially putting AT&T, FirstNet and others in the public safety industry on notice: The interoperability fight is not over. Not by a long shot.

FLEMINGTON, NJ – At the Hunterdon County Board of County Commissioners’ meeting Tuesday, with snowfall continuing for a third consecutive evening, updates on the county’s operations and preparedness throughout the weather situation were delivered by two county elected officials.
“The Communications Center was operating throughout the storm and so were the county’s rescue squads, law enforcement officers and other first responders. The 911 Center handled nearly 1,000 calls during the period of the storm since Sunday afternoon and 11 of Hunterdon County’s 13 rescue squads were called upon to overcome the weather and respond to emergency calls around the county in the last 72 hours…
