Mayor G.T. Bynum has invited a group of city councilors, public safety officials and other city leaders to meet privately with him later this month to discuss where the city might establish a public safety complex.
But don’t expect a new facility to be up and running anytime soon.
“It is very rare, at least in my experience at the city, for a significant capital improvement to come together very quickly,” Bynum said.
He said there is general consensus among the people he’s spoken with that the Police Courts Building downtown is not a viable long-term option…

Over the past several years, communications capabilities for first responders have advanced significantly. These capabilities can be integrated into a deployable operations center model. FirstNet, the public safety broadband network built by AT&T, offers ground-based assets such as its Cell on Wheels and heavy-duty Satellite Cell on Light Trucks communication solutions.
Providers such as Motorola offer private LTE, which allows public safety organizations to determine where, how and when private 4G LTE networks will perform. The message: Don’t hang up, stay on the line and speak with the dispatcher so they know it was an accidental call to the service.
This past weekend, NBPS reports 40 misdials and hang-ups. There were 28 logged the final weekend in June, spreading officers thin as they must respond to each one… READ MORE

Every Nashua police officer will be outfitted with a body camera that activates when a gun is drawn, lights and sirens are switched on, a cruiser door is opened, or an officer is down, if aldermen give the final OK to the $1.8 million contract.
“It covers everyone from the chief on down. We will all wear them,” said Kevin Rourke, deputy chief of the Nashua Police Department.
An aldermanic panel last week supported a six-year contract with Utility of Decatur, Ga., for its BodyWorn cameras for 179 members of the force, as well as additional cameras for cruisers and the police station’s interview and booking rooms…
