FENTON TWP.—Genesee County 911 director Spring Tremaine is stepping down from her post following a family dispute that led to a misdemeanor charge against her.
Tremaine, who was been the 911 director since 2017, sent her letter of resignation to the Genesee County 911 Consortium Board earlier this week. The board then called a special meeting on Monday and voted unanimously to approve Tremaine’s resignation and place her on paid administrative leave until the end of her contract on Sept. 30.
Tremaine, of Fenton Township, was charged with a misdemeanor of disorderly conduct for illegally dumping yard waste and a trash can on her ex-sister-in-law’s driveway in early August. NEW ORLEANS — Police are looking for a New Orleans 911 operator that has been accused of hanging up on people calling for help, an NOPD spokesperson said Thursday.
Officers are looking for Precious Stephens, a 25-year-old woman who faces charges of malfeasance in office and interfering with an emergency communication for an August 23 incident.

Suffolk residents placed numerous calls to the county’s 911 call system Wednesday night as they sought help for relatives in New York City who could not reach 911 while a storm deluged the region, county officials said Thursday.
Callers reported relatives trapped in vehicles and flooded basement apartments, but could not get through to city first responders from about 10 p.m. Wednesday until early Thursday, said Tom Moran, vice president of the Suffolk County Association of Municipal Employees, which represents Suffolk 911 workers.

Two Southeast Alaska communities will now have text-to-911 capability in their emergency communications systems.
Wrangell and Petersburg will now have the ability to text emergency services in cases in which calling isn’t an option.
“So basically it’s been working out excellent,” said Petersburg Police Department Chief James Kerr in a phone interview. “It’s designed for the hearing impaired or domestic violence situations. If you can’t talk to the dispatch, but you need help, you can text.”
