SALINE COUNTY E-911 DISPATCH WORKERS RECOGNIZED FOR THEIR SERVICE FOLLOWING WEDNESDAY NIGHT’S SEVERE STORM (MO)

When someone says the term “first responder,” most individuals think of a firefighter, officer, paramedic or EMT – but between the blue and red lines is a thin gold line that represents the first responders that are rarely seen.

On Wednesday, December 15, a severe wind advisory and thunderstorm watch were issued to parts of the KMMO listening area and behind the scene were E-911 Dispatchers.

According to a release, Saline County E-911 Dispatchers sat quietly in the calm before the storm, but calls had already started rolling in due to high winds setting off alarms and blowing down trees that were blocking roadways…

“When the calls come in, they’re bouncing stuff off of each other hot and heavy,” said Payson Police Chief Ron Tischer.

While one person remains on the line with those reporting the accident, another will have a helicopter on standby. Others will contact the police or fire department or ADOT to control the traffic…

Public-safety leaders today expressed disappointment that efforts to secure federal funding for next-generation 911 (NG911) deployments likely will need to begin anew after hopes to pass the $2 trillion Build Back Better bill were dashed with an announcement of opposition from Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.V.).

Senate Democrats have been trying for months to persuade moderate Democrats Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema to back the social spending bill that initially was described as a $1.75 trillion package but has since been determined to cost hundreds of billions of dollars more. A small fraction of that total—$500 million—was slated to be used to help fund NG911 efforts that have been estimated to cost at least $10 billion to implement nationwide…
