EFFINGHAM, S.C.
— The Florence County Emergency Management Division will be ringing in
the new year with some enhancements to the county’s 911 system — at
least one of them is already in use by several pizza-delivery
restaurants and ride-hailing businesses.
The
most “visible” of the upgrades will allow communications officers to
view the location of callers in real time with enough accuracy that
they’ll be able to tell officers in which corner of a house the caller
is located.

RACINE — As temperatures drop and winter approaches, a Racine tradition hopes to help the homeless find a little warmth this season.
While strolling through Downtown Racine during the winter, maybe you’ve seen the homemade scarves and hats hung on trees or fences, attached with a note that reads: “I am not lost but I am happy YOU FOUND ME! I was handmade for you by someone who cares. If you are cold and need me, please TAKE ME! God Bless.”

According to a Friday news
release from the Ketchikan Gateway Borough, the Alaska Department of
Public Safety wants to move all emergency services dispatcher positions
from Ketchikan to Anchorage by July 2021, but the borough is looking for
a way to keep those jobs local.
Relocating
the seven positions would be part of a DPS project to lay a foundation
for a statewide Enhanced 911 emergency system — a system with more
sophisticated location services that lets dispatchers know where
wireless callers are calling from.
