Today the U.S. Senate failed to pass H.R. 451, the Don’t Break Up the T-Band Act. This legislation would prevent the auction of public safety spectrum in the T-Band (470 MHz – 512 MHz). It also would prevent states from diverting 9-1-1 fees to other purposes.
Section 6103 of Title VI of Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012 (P.L. 112-96) requires the Federal Communications Commission to auction the public safety T-Band spectrum in early 2021. Public safety agencies would have to vacate their spectrum by 2023. This auction will disrupt interoperable public safety communications in 11 major metropolitan areas and their surrounding regions. These 11 areas are: Boston, New York City, Chicago, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Washington, D.C. Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and San Francisco/Oakland…

SAWYER – First responders in Sawyer are getting a major boost in their wireless communications with the addition of a new FirstNet cell site, according to AT&T.
This new infrastructure is a part of the FirstNet Network expansion taking place across the state, bringing increased coverage, capacity and capabilities for public safety.
AT&T also added FirstNet cell sites in Forest River and Gladstone and has launched additional cell sites in Epping, McGregor, Grenora, Williston, Harwood and Raleigh. These will enhance those communities’ 4G LTE coverage and help give residents and first responders faster, more reliable wireless service…

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office and its law enforcement partners throughout the county have announced that a “Text-to-9-1-1” service is now available countywide.

The City of Brownwood’s 9-1-1 dispatch center has received a makeover.
While the makeover so far has consisted of morale-boosting aesthetics — in the form of new carpet and new, modern consoles at the dispatchers’ work stations — new radios that will be installed next year will complete the upgrade.

Sending a text to 911 is now available in Placer County. Text-to-9-1-1 is available to Placer residents and individuals traveling through the county.
According to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, the text function provides a life-saving option to speech- and hearing-impaired residents, and individuals in situations where a voice call is too dangerous.
Messages should be a brief description of the type of help needed and the location of the emergency. The message will then be routed to a nearby dispatch center, allowing dispatchers with the Sheriff’s Office and Auburn Police Department to communicate via text to ask questions and provide instructions…
