The National 911 Program has selected consulting firm Mission Critical Partners to pilot and evaluate the first subset of the 911 DataPath data exchange model.
The National 911 Program, housed within the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Office of Emergency Medical Services, is responsible for improving coordination and communication among Federal, state, and local 911 centers and their personnel, and telecommunications carriers and vendors.
In a press release, the National 911 Program said the pilot project is the “next step in building a national 911 data system as envisioned by the 911 DataPath Initiative.” The first step was the publication of a strategic plan for the “universe” of 911 data, and the second was the release of Administrative Data for 911 Decision-Making, which features the first subset of the 911 data…

Happy holidays to each and every one of you, whichever holiday you observe! As you celebrate, remember all the people who are working over the holidays so we can enjoy the season—first responders, law enforcement, dispatchers, nurses, doctors, the military, and the many others who are on duty to keep us safe.
The holidays have been spread out more than normal this month. Hanukkah was early, Christmas is still two days away, Kwanzaa starts December 26, and special days for other religious groups are sprinkled through the month…

An urgent alert has been issued regarding Android phones that could cause devices to “freeze” when making an emergency call.
The glitch apparently causes Android phones to lock up when attempting to make a 9-1-1 call as the device attempts to share location with emergency service officials, rather than connecting with police or other agency.
According to officials, “unintended interaction” between Microsoft Teams and the Android operating system renders cell phones unable to place outgoing calls to 911… READ MORE

Public-safety leaders today expressed disappointment that efforts to secure federal funding for next-generation 911 (NG911) deployments likely will need to begin anew after hopes to pass the $2 trillion Build Back Better bill were dashed with an announcement of opposition from Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.V.).
Senate Democrats have been trying for months to persuade moderate Democrats Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema to back the social spending bill that initially was described as a $1.75 trillion package but has since been determined to cost hundreds of billions of dollars more. A small fraction of that total—$500 million—was slated to be used to help fund NG911 efforts that have been estimated to cost at least $10 billion to implement nationwide…

For those who manage phone systems, a key responsibility is tracking phone locations and 911 call routing.
That task has been complicated by the rise of softphones and embedded dialers, coupled with the shift to cloud-based communications. The days of simply managing desktop telephones at fixed locations are over.
In addition, new federal regulations often supersede the patchwork of state and local laws governing 911 location management. Mobile phones add another wrinkle. Their near-ubiquity raises questions about how organizations are notified when a 911 call is placed on a personal cellphone from within an office location… READ MORE

Magen David Adom’s groundbreaking technology, which powers the emergency dispatching systems in Israel for medical emergencies and the National Fire Rescue Service as well as for the EMS system in the Philippines, is now being used in the United States.
The computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system developed by MDA—Israel’s national paramedic and Red Cross service—uses artificial intelligence (AI) to instantly locate and dispatch the nearest first responders and ambulances to a medical emergency…
