 (TX)Police Chief Floyd Mitchell makes a few remarks during a groundbreaking ceremony for the new police headquarters on Tuesday.

Construction is underway on the new police headquarters in downtown Lubbock.

The headquarters is yet another component in the city’s Public Safety Improvements Project, which was approved by the city council in 2017. The $60 million Public Safety Improvements Project includes three new police patrol division stations, a new municipal court, police property warehouse and the new headquarters.

The patrol division station located near 19th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard is expected to be occupied next month. The others — one in south Lubbock near 140th Street and Indiana Avenue and the other in north Lubbock on Erskine Street near Frankford Avenue — will open later this year…

GUERNSEY COUNTY, Ohio (WTRF) – If a picture is worth a thousand words, an upgrade to Guernsey County’s 911 system is priceless.

The Carbyne-C Live system allows the dispatcher to see the scene of the emergency as well as hear the caller’s voice. If the caller is on a cell phone, the dispatcher texts them a link. The caller touches the link and that creates a video feed. It’s technology that will literally save lives.

On Tuesday, a semi went up on flames on I-70. “It was a car carrier,” said Jeff Hannon, Guernsey County dispatch coordinator. “So we got two calls with video of that. We could see the semi fully engulfed with the four or five vehicles on the back, also fully engulfed…







Dayton proposes alternative policing for mental health calls (OH)

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Dayton became the latest U.S. city to introduce plans for an alternative policing system to handle certain calls relating to people in mental health crises.

The western Ohio city approved a $150,000 contract last week with a Washington, D.C.-based company, tasking them with data analysis of emergency calls made to the department, making recommendations and meeting with community stakeholders, Dayton Daily News reported Monday.

The process in partnership with Dignity Best Practices will happen over the next six months during which the city will evaluate whether a mental health professional or social worker could be better responders than Dayton police officers…

Henry County Sheriff shares plans for emergency dispatch center (AL)

ABBEVILLE, Ala. (WTVY) – Henry County leaders and law enforcement officials are divided on where they want to see the county’s communication center located.

On Monday, News 4 caught up with Henry County Sheriff Will Maddox. Maddox expressed his plans for the county’s dispatch center.

“There’s nobody in Henry County that wants a central dispatch anymore than I do,” Sheriff Maddox said.

Maddox said he wants to keep the county’s 911 dispatch center in the city of Abbeville. Improvements to the Henry County Courthouse Annex Building are well underway for that purpose…
