Arlington Emergency Communications Deputy Wins State Recognition (VA)

The Virginia Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (VA APCO) has honored Arlington’s Emergency Communications Center (ECC) Deputy Administrator Jeffrey Horwitz with its Public-Safety Communications Information Technologist of the Year award.

The honor recognizes an individual who has demonstrated extraordinary technical knowledge and expertise in their support of public safety communications.

City Council Approves 9-1-1 Communication Center Director Position (SD)

The Watertown City Council heard a request from the Police Department to add a new 9-1-1 Communications Director position at Monday night’s council meeting.  The position is currently held by a Police Captain who has been forced to balance several different roles including management of the 14-person communications center.  Assistant Chief Ryan Remmers, who has managed the center most recently, estimates that 75% of his time is spent managing the center, which took him away from other police related responsibilities… READ MORE

Commissioners recognize Upshur E-911 Telecommunicators (WV)

BUCKHANNON — On March 25, 2020, Governor Jim Justice approved House Bill 4123 that was passed by the West Virginia Legislature, clarifying that 911 telecommunication workers are included in the definition of those individuals who perform “emergency services” during a disaster. Ripon Common Council approves dispatch agreement, talks security upgrades (WI)

The Ripon Common Council unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding between the city and Fond du Lac County regarding the transfer of dispatch responsibilities to the county Monday.

City Attorney Lud Wurtz explained that the memorandum of understanding acts as a framework for how the dispatch transfer would work moving forward.

Police/Fire 911 Dispatcher | Middletown, OH

To establish an Eligible List for the classification of Police/Fire 911 Dispatcher, the City of Middletown will conduct an open competitive examination. All applicants will be required to take a written and listening examination on Saturday, February 20, 2021. Primary responsibilities for this position include receiving, dispatching, and processing calls and messages for police, fire and rescue services. Dispatchers rotate through three separate shifts. Nanaimo fire chief awarded national Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal (Canada)

Nanaimo Fire Rescue’s chief Karen Fry has been awarded the Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal.

The medal, presented by Nanaimo Mayor Leonard Krog and city chief administrator Jake Rudolph at Monday’s city council meeting, is a federal award honouring members of Canada’s fire service who have completed 20 years of service, at least 10 years of which were served performing duties that involved potential risks.
