Communication gaps addressed during hearing (TX)

Details about what happened before and after the Aug. 31 mass shooting in Odessa and Midland continued to surface during the Texas House Select Committee on Mass Violence Prevention & Community Safety.

Trio calls 911 on themselves (AL)

A 911 call earlier this week resulted in three arrests for possession of meth, paraphernalia and illegal prescription drugs.

On Nov. 4, 2019, around 6 a.m., Covington County Communications Center dispatched a call to Cottle Creek Rd.

PulsePoint app to help cardiac arrest victims in San Luis Obispo surpasses 4,000 subscribers (CA)

The PulsePoint application, which connects a victim of sudden cardiac arrest in San Luis Obispo with a person who is willing to conduct CPR in the area, just reached more than 4,000 subscribers.

Last year, the app had 2,410 subscribers – nearly doubling the subscriber base to 4,268 users over the past year.

Assessors to evaluate Emergency Communications

The Suffolk Police Department’s Emergency Communications Center will soon be evaluated by a team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc.

Specifically, CALEA will evaluate the Emergency Communications Center’s policies and procedures, management, operations and support services. The evaluation team will arrive Oct. 7.

Oops is no excuse: You’d be surprised how many 911 calls Dufferin OPP receives in error or by accident

Nearly three-quarters of the time 911 has been dialed in its jurisdiction this year, Dufferin OPP has responded to learn that the call was made in error or by accident.

From January to Aug. 31, Dufferin OPP Const. Shannon Gordanier reports that officers have responded to a total of 413 calls made to 911 — of those calls, police report 307, or 75 per cent, were made in error.

“(This) includes, but is not limited to, accidental dials, children playing with (the) phone, Apple Watches and pocket dials,” Gordanier told The Banner.
