In a reversal, the Ripon Common Council votes to move dispatch center to Fond du Lac County (WI)

After voting earlier this month to keep Ripon’s dispatch center in the city, the Ripon Common Council reversed itself Monday night by voting 6-2 to consolidate dispatch centers with Fond du Lac County.

Leader of Salem’s 911 honored for lifetime achievement (OR)

The local government executive responsible for running the region’s 911 system has earned a lifetime achievement award, praised by peers for his devotion to emergency communications.

The Oregon chapter of the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials gave the award to Mark Buchholz, who has been director of the Willamette Valley Communications Center – the local 911 system – since 1998.

Montgomery County dispatch center undergoes renovation (OH)

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center recently received an upgrade.

In a Facebook post, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said that the center’s layout includes new acrylic barriers and work stations equipped for sitting or standing.

Cloud driving public safety improvements

Public-safety organizations have more opportunity than ever to be efficient, interoperable and data-driven thanks to cloud computing, a panel of experts said during a webinar.

For instance, California’s Office of Emergency Service’s Public Safety Communications (PSC) Division turned to the cloud to use device-based location data for 911 callers. When that data first became available a few years ago, the equipment in the state’s public-safety answering points (PSAPs) couldn’t integrate it.  Now, 82% of the state’s 911 calls come from mobile devices, and with cloud, dispatchers can immediately view location data on their screens and verify it with callers…
