Flathead County’s 911 dispatch center struggled to hire and retain employees during the first quarter of 2021 as call volumes continued to surge, but the center’s director said the number of vacant positions is shrinking and the turnover has not disrupted emergency services.
Liz Brooks, director of the Flathead Emergency Communications Center, said the center has not been immune from the pandemic-related labor and housing shortages affecting businesses throughout the valley — and that’s on top of the usual difficulties of recruiting for such high-stress jobs…
MACOMB — During Tuesday’s brief meeting, 911 director Eric Lenardt told the McDonough County-Schuyler County Emergency Telephone Service Board the dispatch center’s conversion to INDigital is nearly complete.
Lenardt said he’d had the 911 digital service tested to see if everything worked correctly. The Secaucus Police Dept. has been an accredited agency since 2014, but this new program for dispatch started in 2020, and SPD was the first to achieve it.
Accreditation is from the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police. The accreditation process was overseen by Lt. Wayne Bruton and carried out by the dispatchers and certified desk officers…
The acts of heroism by members of the Monticello and West Iredell fire departments and the Emergency Communications Center won’t be forgotten by the young man whose life they saved last September. They won’t be forgotten in the public record either, as Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey presented them with SAVE awards for their various roles in saving a teenager’s life.
“The first thing that struck me when I saw this was it was certainly a team effort,” Causey said. “It was not any one person, it was eight people coming together as a team to save a life.” …
