EAGLEVILLE — Montgomery County Department of Public Safety Interim Director Michael O. Vest was formally appointed to director, a department spokesperson said Wednesday. The Montgomery County Board of Commissioners selected Vest for the leadership position, which became effective June 14.

Vest has been serving as interim director since Jan. 6, following the retirement of former Director Thomas M. Sullivan.

BOCC awards contract to upgrade County public safety radio system (FL)

After years of discussing how to accomplish and fund it, the Hernando County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) voted unanimously to improve the County’s public safety radio system by awarding the upgrade contract to Communications International, Inc. The vote took place during the Board’s regular meeting on June 22.

“This is not anything small,” said BOCC Chairman John Allocco. “We’ve talked about it a minimum of 25 times in the last four years.”

During the meeting, County Administrator Jeff Rogers, P.E., told the Board that under terms of the nearly $13 million upgrade contract, 98 percent of the entire county will be covered to improve shared communications for law enforcement, fire and emergency personnel that respond to emergency calls. The service upgrade also includes better service in “significant” buildings, and GPS location coverage…

South Carolina Supreme Court says Greenville County road and telecommunications fees are illegal taxes

The South Carolina Supreme Court struck down a pair of measures Wednesday that Greenville County used to increase its road maintenance fee and establish a telecommunications assessment.

The court found that the $25 yearly fee on registered vehicles and the annual $14.95 telecommunications fee charged to property owners in the county are illegal taxes.

The financial implications of the ruling remained unclear Wednesday afternoon, but they may range from nearly $7 million to as much as $16 million in lost revenue each year…

County to address dispatch issues (IN)

Two separate emergency expenditures have been approved for the Bartholomew County’s 911 Emergency Operations Center.

Emergency approval by the Bartholomew County commissioners was given just a few weeks after a potentially dangerous situation emerged, E-911 Center Director Todd Noblitt said.

Officer Gerald “Terry” Fitzgerald Retires after 27 Years with GPD

Officer Gerald “Terry” Fitzgerald retired from the Greenwich Police Department after 27 years of service to the Greenwich Police Dept. He joined the force in 1994. Before becoming a Greenwich Police Officer, Officer Fitzgerald was a Police Officer for the Town of Wilton from 1989 to 1994. His total service in law enforcement was 32 years. Officer Fitzgerald was a graduate of the 321st Municipal Police Training Council.

Officer Fitzgerald’s career included assignments as a Patrol Officer, Master Patrol Officer and ended as a Police Communications Officer. He also was a Field Training Officer, Honor Guard Team member, and Emergency Medical Technician.

In 2010, Chief Ridberg (Ret.) appointed Officer Fitzgerald as the Police Communications Officer. In this role, Officer Fitzgerald was responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Town of Greenwich emergency radio system.
