Ipswich advances plans for public safety building (MA)

IPSWICH — A proposal to construct a new $27.6 million public safety facility for the town of Ipswich off Linebrook Road could go before voters in a Special Town Meeting this fall, following the completion of a feasibility study.

Town officials announced late last month that the architectural firm HKT Associates had completed its analysis of the needs of all seven public safety departments, which would share space in a 29,559-square-foot building, as well as studying the proposed locations.

Besides the fire and police departments, the new facility would house an emergency communications center, emergency management, the harbormaster, shellfish constable and the animal control officer…

In this week’s Advocate, I will look at The FirstNet Authority’s expanding role as it works with countries around the world. Also this week, several federal organizations have decided to work together on digital-divide issues, while another group of federal agencies appears to be duplicating efforts that have been successful in the private sector, and NPSTC has announced this year’s awards. Then there is AT&T’s 5G in the cloud, and the Microsoft/AT&T agreement for the AT&T 5G core to be hosted in the Microsoft Azure cloud.

FirstNet and International Public-Safety Broadband Systems

The FirstNet Authority, created by the same 2012 law as the FirstNet network, has been overseeing the FirstNet (Built with AT&T) build-out and has reinvested funds into the network for enhancements such as adding 5G capabilities to the FirstNet core and adding deployables to the fleet…

St. Lawrence County 911 to temporarily take on Ogdensburg police dispatch (NY)

OGDENSBURG — As part of a short experiment, St. Lawrence County 911 will take on the city’s police dispatch.

Matthew R. Denner, director and fire coordinator for St. Lawrence County Emergency Services, said that starting July 11, his office will be conducting a “pilot program” with Ogdensburg police, “where our dispatcher will dispatch them from our public safety access point.”

The pilot will run for four consecutive nights between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. The point, according to Mr. Denner, is for city police and county emergency services to better understand how each entity works. This could also lead to faster response times…

Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office PSAP 911 Communications Division achieves certification (MN)

All Beltrami County Communications Officers have been trained and certified in Telephone CPR (referred to as TCPR) enhancing their instruction prior to the arrival of first responders and medical services. The training provided the skills to rapidly detect the need for CPR and how to instruct citizens in performing CPR. Legislation in 2019 required Minnesota Public Safety Answering Points (911 centers) to establish a protocol by July 1st, 2021 to provide a minimum level of instruction for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) when callers who are not trained in CPR are reporting an out of hospital cardiac arrest.

While Beltrami County’s 911 Center has provided pre-arrival instruction for years, TCPR has established a protocol that is consistent for all 911 centers in the state… READ MORE

Michigan Officials Working to Fully Staff 9-1-1 Center

HILLSDALE, MI—Hillsdale County’s 9-1-1 administrators are working tirelessly to recruit new emergency dispatchers to bring staff levels back up to 100 percent.

Emergency dispatchers are the first point of contact in an emergency and are often referred to as “the lifeline” for personnel in the field such as firefighters, police officers and paramedics.

Doug Sanford, Hillsdale County’s emergency management and 9-1-1 director, said the dispatch center — located in Hillsdale’s Industrial Park — has been a few employees short for a few years now, but they did not interview potential new candidates for the last year due to COVID-19…
