First Responders Honored For Life Saving Actions (MS)

TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – First responders are recognized for helping save the life of a Vietnam-era Veteran whose house caught fire.

The Tupelo Fire Department, Tupelo Police Department, Lee County E 9 1 1, and NMCC’s Emergency Services were honored during a ceremony at the Tupelo Police department.

The first responders were dispatched to a fire at the home of Dennis McCullough.  He called 9 1 1 during the early morning hours of February 6, 2020, to report a fire in his house.

FORT SMITH — People in Sebastian County are receptive to a potential consolidation of the 911 system there that could result in financial savings, according to an organization looking into the idea.

Crystal Lawrence of the Florida-based Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials International provided the Sebastian County 911 Board with a general overview of what it learned this week as part of a feasibility study that will look at consolidating the county’s three call centers. Call centers handle individual emergency service units, including police, fire and ambulance.

North Ridgeville firefighters urge radio upgrades (OH)

Members of the North Ridgeville Fire Department urged North Ridgeville City Council to approve upgrades to the radio system July 6 as part of a proposal involving five Lorain County communities to lease equipment for an L3Harris system.

The proposed contract with Cleveland Communications Inc. would allow North Ridgeville, along with the cities of Avon, Avon Lake, Sheffield Lake and Village of Sheffield, to lease radio equipment and the infrastructure to operate the system.

The Harris system would replace a MARCS (Multi-Agency Radio Communications System) system after years of complaints from department across the five-city area…

Isabella County residents who wish to provide more detailed information to First Responders during an emergency can now do that.

Smart 911, which is accessible as either a website or a phone app, allows people who sign up for it to provide more detailed information about their homes, their own medical histories and even their pets through accounts they set up.

“Smart911 saves critical time in an emergency when seconds count,” said McCarther Griffis, Isabella County’s director of emergency management and Central Dispatch, in a press release. By around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, 2,800 homes remained without power

Emergency communications were knocked offline for a short time Wednesday evening after the Bradford County Public Safety Center took a direct lightning strike.

The hit came around 9:15 p.m., according to Planning and Public Safety Director Matt Williams, and damaged a piece of equipment that prevented the building from switching to back-up power. By around 10 p.m. they were able to bypass that piece of equipment and bring power back to the building.
