Our Police Emergency Communications Centres are marking a milestone, celebrating 25 years of delivering critical emergency services for both public safety and the safety of frontline police officers.

While 111 calls have been taken for many years, it wasn’t until 1996 that dedicated ‘Comms’ Centres were established – first in Wellington, and then replicated in Christchurch and Auckland.

Before then calls were handled by Operations and Control Rooms. Major changes took place when the Communication and Resource Deployment (CARD) system was set up.

Emergency Dispatcher Helps Deliver Baby In Wauwatosa (WI)

WAUWATOSA, WI—A 911 emergency dispatcher helped deliver a baby in Wauwatosa. Dispatcher Rhondi Love assisted a Wauwatosa family deliver a baby over the phone utilizing Emergency Medical Dispatch, according to the Wauwatosa Police Department.

EMD is a system that enhances emergency services and allows the call takers to quickly narrow down the type of situation and dispatch first responders.

The questions asked by the dispatcher help them relay critical information to responding medical personnel so they can be prepared to assist immediately when they arrive, police said…

EC Emergency Services receives $1.2 million Statewide Interoperable Communications Grant (NY)

NYS grant aids in enhancing emergency response, improving capability, infrastructure development

New York State Homeland Security and Emergency Services agency recently announced it awarded Erie County a grant for $1.2 million under the NYS 2020 Statewide Interoperable Communications Grant (SICG). The program allows for state support to aid counties and local public safety organizations in enhancing emergency response, improving capability, facilitating improvements in governance structures, and infrastructure development.

“Grants such as this help Erie County’s homeland security and emergency response efforts tremendously by improving coordination and communication in crisis situations, and I thank NYSHSES Commissioner Murphy for this award,” Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz said…

Dispatcher Wayne Breitbarth recognized with ‘Making a Difference’ Award (MN)

WASECA, Minn. (KEYC) – Wayne Breitbarth, a dispatcher for the Waseca County Emergency Communications Center, was recognized for his dedication to duty.

Breitbarth was awarded the 2021 “Making a Difference” Award Wednesday evening at Arrowwood Resort in Alexandria.

The award is in recognition of his work during the shooting of Waseca Officer Arik Matson. Officer Matson was shot in the head in January while responding to a suspicious persons report…
