PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Fire Chief Darryl Jones, a career firefighter whose decade-plus tenure in the city culminated in helping lead the response to the Fern Hollow Bridge collapse in recent days, took over as the city’s emergency management coordinator on Monday.

The promotion was officially announced as Mr. Jones was at the site of the collapse, and in an interview with the Post-Gazette, he said he hasn’t had much time to think of his goals for the position, but he said he thinks it’s a “natural progression” for a career dedicated to responding to emergencies…

WASHINGTON D.C.—Federal Communications Commission Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel has announced a number of key appointments at the agency, with the selection of bureau chiefs for Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau, Media Bureau, Public Safety Bureau, Enforcement Bureau and General Counsel.

As part of the changes, Alejandro Roark will serve as Chief of the Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau.  Debra Jordan will now be Chief of the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau.  Holly Saurer will now serve as Chief of the Media Bureau.  Loyaan Egal will serve as the Acting Chief of the Enforcement Bureau.  Lastly, Michele Ellison will permanently serve as General Counsel…

Atlanta officials ask residents to dial 311 for quality-of-life issues (GA)

“I decided this would be a perfect opportunity to call PAD at 311,” Buitekant told FOX 5’s Deidra Duke. “So I called them not knowing necessarily that they would absolutely be able to do whatever is needed, but I knew it was an alternative to calling the police.”

Denton employees dispatching Little Elm police, fire in $4.8 million agreement (TX)

As Little Elm’s population has boomed, the town grew to have so many 911 calls flowing through Denton County’s dispatch system that town officials wanted to find another dispatcher service to handle calls for help.

Through a five-year interlocal agreement totaling $4.8 million, city of Denton employees at the Denton Public Safety Communications Center began dispatching solely for Little Elm in September 2021.

The Denton City Council approved the interlocal agreement on Sept. 15, 2020. The bulk of the money from the agreement goes toward paying dispatchers, according to the ordinance documents…

ADAMH CEO: Crisis center will be alternative to 911 in mental health emergency (OH)

City of Columbus leaders should be applauded for increasing their investment in an alternative response for mental health and addiction-related 911 calls, which was recently covered in the Columbus Dispatch.

What we see in our community is that mental health crisis episodes are medical emergencies, but most often not public safety emergencies. It is important to triage calls at the point of entry – which, for most in our community is currently a call to 911…

 

Final Draft approved for the 911 Telecommunicator Pension Benefits Workgroup (MN)

Today the 911 Telecommunicators Pension Benefits workgroup met, made final changes and approved the Report to be given to the Legislative Commission on Pensions and Retirement.

Sadly the only 2 voting Corrections Officer’s, Heidi Pauman representing PERA Correctional Plan members and Dan Gorman representing State CO’s were NOT in attendance.

There was no consensus on improving the Dispatch pension. The line recommending not adding dispatch to the PERA Correctional plan was scratched, but no line was added to recommend it either… READ MORE
