SHERIDAN — A bill sponsored by the Wyoming Legislature’s Joint Transportation, Highways and Military Affair Committee would require telecommunicator cardiopulmonary resuscitation — or teleCPR — training for Wyoming dispatchers.
If passed, the new training regimen would have to be approved by Wyoming’s Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission by 2023, POST officials said at a meeting Thursday.
TeleCPR is the process of conveying instructions for how to administer CPR over the phone, POST Director Chris Walsh explained to the commission… READ MORE
In an emergency, the 911 center is often a lifeline. It’s where the call is answered, the crisis is assessed and the appropriate first responder is dispatched to the scene.
Most Chatham County municipalities rely on the county 911 dispatch center to take care of this major responsibility. The shared operation costs less and streamlines communications between municipalities and first responder services.
Yet one municipality, Tybee Island, runs its own 911 dispatch and turned down the chance to join the county despite significant cost savings – $225,000 annually – and interoperability…

ATLANTA – After a chance encounter with a homeless mother and child at an Atlanta shopping center, Ruby-Beth Buitekant wanted to help. She dialed ATL 311.
“I decided this would be a perfect opportunity to call PAD at 311,” Buitekant told FOX 5’s Deidra Duke. “So I called them not knowing necessarily that they would absolutely be able to do whatever is needed, but I knew it was an alternative to calling the police.”
Commissioner Myesha Good, oversees the department. Good says many Atlanta residents are unaware that they should call 311 instead of 911 to report and get help for people experiencing quality-of-life issues like extreme poverty, mental health crisis and homelessness…
As Little Elm’s population has boomed, the town grew to have so many 911 calls flowing through Denton County’s dispatch system that town officials wanted to find another dispatcher service to handle calls for help.
Through a five-year interlocal agreement totaling $4.8 million, city of Denton employees at the Denton Public Safety Communications Center began dispatching solely for Little Elm in September 2021.
The Denton City Council approved the interlocal agreement on Sept. 15, 2020. The bulk of the money from the agreement goes toward paying dispatchers, according to the ordinance documents…
