Las Cruces 911 lines restored after being down on Tuesday (NM)

Officials in Las Cruces say the lines that connect 911 calls to dispatchers in the City of the Crosses were down on Tuesday, but are working once again.

The Mesilla Valley Regional Dispatch Authority says even though the lines to the main dispatch center were down, 911 calls were answered at a backup facility throughout the day.

“It definitely does impact us because our 911 lines were cut off and our non-emergency lines were cut off and our non-emergency lines which people use to get ahold of us for day to day issues that are non-emergency were also cut off,” said Albert Flores the Director Mesilla Valley Regional Dispatch Authority…

If passed, the new training regimen would have to be approved by Wyoming’s Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission by 2023, POST officials said at a meeting Thursday.

Tybee Island only city in Chatham County which runs city 911 dispatch (GA)

Maj. William Moseley looks over dispatcher Jessica Tipton's shoulder as they send out a test signal from the Tybee Island Police Department 911 Dispatch Center.

In an emergency, the 911 center is often a lifeline. It’s where the call is answered, the crisis is assessed and the appropriate first responder is dispatched to the scene.

Most Chatham County municipalities rely on the county 911 dispatch center to take care of this major responsibility. The shared operation costs less and streamlines communications between municipalities and first responder services.

Yet one municipality, Tybee Island, runs its own 911 dispatch and turned down the chance to join the county despite significant cost savings – $225,000 annually – and interoperability…

Atlanta officials ask residents to dial 311 for quality-of-life issues (GA)

“I decided this would be a perfect opportunity to call PAD at 311,” Buitekant told FOX 5’s Deidra Duke. “So I called them not knowing necessarily that they would absolutely be able to do whatever is needed, but I knew it was an alternative to calling the police.”

Commissioner Myesha Good, oversees the department. Good says many Atlanta residents are unaware that they should call 311 instead of 911 to report and get help for people experiencing quality-of-life issues like extreme poverty, mental health crisis and homelessness…
