Liberty helps Gladstone with dispatching (MO)

LIBERTY — From Monday, Jan. 10 to Thursday, Jan. 13, the dispatchers for Liberty first responded stepped up and handled almost all of Gladstone’s 911 calls for police, fire and emergency medical service.

Captain Andy Hedrick, Liberty Police Department’s public information officer, said the double dispatching effort went “pretty well.”

“Sometimes dispatchers need five hands and more ears than the two they were born with when calls come in,” he said. “It’s the nature of emergency services. When Gladstone needed help, they asked for mutual aid…

New FirstNet Cell Site Launches in Salisbury to Support First Responders (CT)

What’s the news? Salisbury’s first responders are getting a major boost in their wireless communications thanks to the FirstNet® network expansion currently underway by AT&T*. We’ve added a new, purpose-built cell site located in Salisbury, which will cover portions along Route 44 and surrounding neighborhoods and businesses. This new site is giving first responders on FirstNet – America’s public safety network – access to always-on, 24-hours-a-day priority and preemption across voice and data.

Why is this important? We consider FirstNet the most important wireless network in the country because it serves our first responders…

Public Safety Advocate: Surveys, Over-Hyping Products and Services, Problem Solving

First, I want to thank everyone who has responded to our survey. It will be up for a few more weeks, so please take a few minutes to fill it out if you have not done so.

Spending a few minutes on this survey will help us make sure we are addressing what you are interested in and identify some early trends from your responses. I believe this information will be of great interest to all of us and I will share more interesting (anonymous) results with you.

Some of the first feedback is that this survey seems to be designed to elicit responses from the public-safety community but it does not include questions for the vendor community. This observation is correct. I am working on a second survey designed for vendors of devices, applications, and more. It is important for both public-safety and vendor communities to respond to surveys such as this. I expect much of what we learn from the first survey will be of interest to the vendor community and, likewise, the public-safety community will gain insights from the results of the vendor survey. Stay tuned…

Ohio bill would give all counties access to Next Gen 911 system (OH)

HAMILTON COUNTY, Ohio (WKRC) – There is a push to create a statewide 911 connected system in Ohio. It’s part of House Bill 445.

Andrew Knapp, the communications director for the Hamilton County Communications Center says the current 911 system was developed for landlines decades ago.

He says in many places outside large urban areas like Hamilton County, you’re only able to call for help.

Even when you can get through, if you don’t know your exact location, don’t count on dispatchers always being able to pinpoint where you are. HB 445 would also push for every county to have next gen 911 services… READ MORE
