LINCOLNVILLE – At 10:07 a.m., January 16, 2022, Knox Regional Communications Center Dispatcher Tracie Webster received a call for a woman in active labor. She initiated emergency protocols and toned North East Mobile Health Services, the ambulance company that covers Lincolnville. Robyn Jones was is the process of giving birth, and her husband, Ralph, was asking for assistance.
Earlier in the morning, Robyn and Ralph were gearing up for the birth of their baby. They live in Lincolnville Center, and the hospital is 20 minutes away.

ROSWELL, GA — The Roswell Fire Department will be able to respond quicker now that its 911 Center is using a GPS tracker to dispatch the closest emergency response vehicle to a caller’s location.

A mobile app that is meant to improve communication between police departments and the public has been picked up by two Connecticut police departments, with a handful of other departments considering it as well.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 7, 2022) –Gov. Andy Beshear has ordered flags at all state buildings to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Tuesday, March 8, in honor of a Kentucky State Police (KSP) telecommunicator who died Sunday, Feb. 27.
Police Telecommunicator II Charles “Chuck” Stewart Jr. died after suffering a heart attack while on duty at KSP Post 4. Funeral services will be held at Southeast Christian Church in Elizabethtown Tuesday. Stewart served the commonwealth as telecommunicator for 34 years, of which 19 years were with KSP. The Webster Dictionary defines “Unified” as “Brought together as one.” Under the public-safety Incident Command (IC) structure, “Unified” means “Unified Command (UC): In incidents involving multiple jurisdictions, a single jurisdiction with multiagency involvement, or multiple jurisdictions with multiagency involvement, Unified Command allows agencies with different legal, geographic, and functional authorities and responsibilities to work together effectively.” (For more information about Incident Command see FEMA.)
Based on both meanings of “Unified,” I would like to suggest that public safety leave “interoperability” and “PTT interoperability” (Push-To-Talk interoperability) behind and replace these terms with “Unified.” This might make it easier to explain exactly what is needed by the public-safety community when it comes to push-to-talk…
BELTON, Texas (KWTX) – There are fewer 911 call takers and dispatchers to respond to emergency calls at the Bell County Communication Center as a nationwide worker shortage slows down the hiring process.
The Bell County 911 Center in Belton received about 700 calls every day. That is where Cristina Partida has worked for 20 years as a call taker and dispatcher.
“I know its mostly behind the scenes, but you still help people,” Partida said. “You’re the first voice they hear.”
