LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – This week, telecommunicators across the nation are being celebrated for their life-saving work.
In Webb County, the sheriff’s office hosted a ceremony on Tuesday, April 12, to honor its telecommunicators. They are on-call 24/7 answering emergency calls. They not only ensure the community receives the help they need, but also make sure deputies and officers return home safely. The work they do is critical for the community.
Maria Dora Ibarra, a telecommunicator for Webb County Sheriff’s Office, remembers one call she answered regarding a couple was driving as a baby was being born: ”I told them to go ahead and stop because we were going to be delivering the baby. HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) – This week, Hastings is celebrating National Public Safety Telecommunicators week, to honor the men and women who serve as dispatchers at Hastings PD.
The role of a dispatcher is a critical one, as they’re the first person people talk to when they dial 9-1-1 with an emergency.

Valley Communications Center in Kent is celebrating this year’s National Telecommunicators Week April 10-16 to honor and recognize the professionals who handle thousands of emergency 911 calls each month in South King County.
Every year, the second full week of April is dedicated to the men and women who serve as public safety telecommunicators. In 1991, Congress proclaimed it a national week of recognition.
