WARE – A proposal currently before the town’s Board of Selectmen, if approved, would add the municipality’s s fire and police department emergency dispatch services to the WestComm Regional Dispatch Center, based in Chicopee.

Longmeadow, East Longmeadow, Monson and Chicopee currently share the consolidated dispatching service.

The Chicopee and Longmeadow police and fire departments in December 2019 combined their four dispatch centers into one…

New bill lays groundwork for improved 911 service (WY)

On the night of March 14, a Cadillac drifted into the wrong lane and was struck head-on by an oncoming UPS truck southeast of Powell. Both drivers suffered serious injuries, with the man behind the wheel of the Cadillac left in critical condition.

When the first 911 call came into the Park County Communication Center, GPS data placed the scene of the crash near Crown Hill Cemetery. In fact, the vehicles had collided on Wyo. Highway 295, about 4 miles to the south, and it took an alert trooper with the Wyoming Highway Patrol to route the first responders in the right direction.

“Was it a significant time delay? No,” said Monte McClain, the communications supervisor for the Park County Sheriff’s Office. “But four minutes in a life-and-death situation is still four minutes.”

ACCOMAC, Va. – The Eastern Shore is getting $8.2 million in federal dollars to overhaul the region’s 911 system, which local leaders say is much needed.

Rep. Elaine Luria (D-Va.) presented local leaders and first responders with a ceremonial check on Monday morning.

“That call has to get to somebody, so making that investment for this system was truly a no-brainer,” Luria said…

Proposal Aims to Better Prepare MN 911 Dispatchers for Guiding CPR

Almost 90 percent of Americans believe they can get instructions on how to perform CPR if needed, when they call 911. The reality is, only 50-60 percent of dispatchers are trained to give those instructions.

The American Heart Association is backing legislation to require that dispatchers be trained to provide CPR instruction, or be able to quickly transfer callers to someone who can. Justin Bell, regional vice president of advocacy at the American Heart Association, said over-the-phone instruction is vital, even if the caller already knows what they’re doing…

911 dispatcher, business owner, help South Bend Police nab burglary suspect (IN)

South Bend Police are crediting St. Joseph County 911 for helping nab a burglary suspect.

It was around 1:45 a.m. on Monday, April 18, when officers were sent to a business in the 800 block of S. Michigan Street to investigate a possible burglary. The business owner was watching surveillance cameras from home saw an individual inside his business and called 911.

Loudenbeck: Loudenbeck 911 bill signed (WI)

Madison- Today, Governor Tony Evers signed Senate Bill 673, authored by Rep. Amy Loudenbeck (R-Clinton) and Sen. Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green). The bill is now 2021 Wisconsin Act 261.

Act 261 creates a Geographical Information System (GIS) grant program to assist counties with the cost of data preparation, data gathering, data creation, geographic information system staffing, data preparation and collection contracts, and training. Local governments will need to prepare and enhance their GIS data in order to meet the technical requirements to enable Next Generation 911 (NG-911)… READ MORE
