Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement (CALEA) Recognizes the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office for Law Enforcement and Communications (FL)

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office was awarded national reaccreditation on April 2, 2022, by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) for Law Enforcement and Communications. CCSO first earned this award in 2005 in the area of Law Enforcement and in 2015 for Communications. Each agency being reviewed, goes before CALEA’s 21-member Board of Commissioners where the commission reviews all findings and determines the agencies’ accreditation status.

Kim Borresen, 911 dispatcher at Fort Stewart’s 911 dispatch center, returns to work at her call station April 15 after being recognized by the Georgia Emergency Communications Authority with a certificate of appreciation for going above and beyond the call of duty. Borresen did not miss a day of work despite being diagnosed with breast cancer a year ago and undergoing treatment.

Cherokee County’s Radio Technology Director recently earned state accolades for his service to E-9-1-1, emergency management, fire and public safety in the county.

Jason Jenkins was presented the Leadership in Service Award at the Georgia Emergency Communications Conference held at The Classic Center in Athens in March.

BALDWIN — In observance of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, Toni Jandron with Lake County 911 Central Dispatch was given the distinct honor of Dispatcher of the Year during the Lake County Board of Commissioners meeting last Wednesday.

“Toni was nominated for Dispatcher of the Year by her peers, and selected by members of the 911 Committee. Toni Jandron started working with Lake County 911 Central Dispatch in April of 2018. She began her training program and completed it and began working on the night shift. She is always in a positive mood, and is a team player. Public Knowledge Welcomes FCC Action To Improve Wireless Emergency Alert System

Today, the Federal Communications Commission voted to approve a Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to seek comment on proposals to bolster the effectiveness of the Wireless Emergency Alerts system. This WEA system allows federal, state, and local emergency management agencies to notify people about dangerous weather, missing children, and other critical public safety situations on their cell phones or other mobile devices.

The WEA system has been active for a decade, and in that time more than 61,000 alerts have been issued to the public…

Dispatchers: Don’t call 911 to see if it’s working (OR)

Emergency dispatch agencies in Jackson and Josephine counties are asking locals not to test their access to 911 without an actual emergency.

Verizon wireless subscribers across the West Coast got alerts Wednesday about intermittent service disruptions, according to national news outlets and press releases from emergency dispatch agencies in Southern Oregon and Northern California.

Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon stated in an official social media post made at 9:14 p.m. Wednesday that its testing found no signs of an outage. Further, no wireless carriers had reported any outages to them…
