Sarasota County’s centralized emergency call center is still getting
to know Longboat Key after taking over dispatch duties from the town in
2016. On Aug. 13, seven members of the Sarasota Emergency Operations
Bureau took a day tour of the island with the goal of becoming better
acquainted with its geography, landmarks and idiosyncrasies.
Fire Chief Paul Dezzi and Fire EMS Liaison and PIO Tina Adams led the
group on a trek up and down the 10.2-mile island, driving from the fire
department headquarters to the north end of the island, then to the
south end, then back to the north fire department.

PLACER COUNTY (CBS13) – Dispatchers and paramedics worked together to
help deliver a baby who apparently just couldn’t wait to make its world
debut.
The incident happened back on July 30. The Placer County
Sheriff’s Office says dispatcher Brooke Ritzman got a call that day from
a man whose wife had gone into labor at home.
Contractions were already coming 30 seconds apart, and paramedics
still weren’t there, so Ritzman started talking the couple through
preparing for the imminent birth of the already crowning baby.

Atos Public Safety was awarded a 5-year, USD 198 million contract by
the State of California to transform the state’s 911 system. Atos Public
Safety will serve as the Next Generation 911 Prime Network Service
Provider (PNSP) for the initiative.
The company will provide overall management of emergency call flow
for the state and integration with the state’s regional ESInets, an
emergency services IP network that replaces 25-year-old technology.
Through this, California will be able to intelligently route, manage and
deliver a broad array of real-time information, including SMS and Real
Time Text (RTT) to 911

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) – A San Jose police dispatcher has been charged
with felony fraud for cashing in disability insurance for more than a
year after returning to work, the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s
Office announced Tuesday.
Wendy Vaccaro, 41, of Campbell, was arrested in July for the alleged
fraud. Prosecutors said her disability was not work-related, and that
she first took a leave in March 2017. She returned to work in mid-June
2017, but didn’t notify the insurance company to cease sending her
$5,600 monthly checks, prosecutors said.

BEND, Ore. — The wife of a 39-year-old central Oregon man gored to
death by a yak on his hobby farm is suing Deschutes County’s 911 for $7
million, saying a dispatcher failed to send an ambulance when the man
called and tried to ask for help.
Brian Wing moaned in pain but
was unable to speak clearly after he dialed 911 on his cell phone from
his Redmond area farm on Aug. 16, 2017, according to the lawsuit filed
last week. Dispatchers failed to send help, even though 13 seconds into
the call the 911 system pinged Wing’s phone and determined it was in the
vicinity of one of his neighbors’ lots, the suit states.
