A Wood County Sheriff’s Office deputy mistakenly issued a test of the CodeRed system during her training early this morning.
The alert was sent to all subscribers around 2:40 a.m., according to a release by the sheriff’s office.
“The dispatcher understand the
inconvenience she caused to all of our subscribers,” the press release
stated. “She and (Sheriff) Mark Wasylyshyn, who is responsible for what
happens in the dispatch center, apologize to everyone for this error. We
will do our best to keep this from happening again.”

Jonathan Bennett was the Ada County 911 dispatcher that took the
call. He was actually in training with another dispatcher when the call
came in.
Bennett said the situation was a little scary for both himself and the callers, but they were very focused.
“It
wasn’t the first call I gave CPR instructions on, but it was the first
call where they had an AED, a defibrillator on-site,” Bennett said.

The child was attacked at around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday
while he was running from his home to a neighbor’s. His father is
credited with chasing the mountain lion off — likely saving his son’s
life.
In 911 audio released by the Park County
Sheriff’s Office (it is available in full above), the boy’s mother is
heard speaking with a dispatcher, who helped guide the family to the
fire station and stop some of the bleeding.

East Hampton Village public safety dispatchers are taking the village to
court in a dispute about which employees get first dibs on overtime.
In
August 2018, Village Police Chief Michael Tracey, whose department
oversees the dispatchers, issued an order that dispatchers of the same
rank as those they were replacing on a shift should be eligible for
overtime hours, rather than giving top priority to dispatchers with the
most seniority.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WPDE) — Looking for a job?
The Myrtle Beach Police Department is hiring.
The
department needs dispatchers to answer emergency calls, as well as
part-time and full-time community service officers. No experience is
necessary.
“For most of our jobs, it’s just a high school diploma
or a GED and a valid drivers license and you must be 18 years old,” said
Lt. Bryan Murphy, MBPD. “Of course, to be a police officer you have to
be 21 because of the state laws.”

During its Aug. 22 meeting,
the South Dakota 911 Coordination Board unanimously voted to amend a
contract for the South Dakota Next Generation 911 Project.
This
amendment is in regards to the Rapid City call center with its multiple
workstations, dual electrical circuits, cabling and need to replace/buy
more uninterruptible power supply (UPS) units.
Explanation
A 911 call center for police,
firefighting and ambulance services is referred to as a public safety
answering point (PSAP). These call centers run 24 hours a day,
dispatching emergency services or passing 911 calls on to public or
private safety agencies.
