What was believed to be a prank call has turned into a $39,000 fine and pending legal action against a State Road man.
Ocean Adrian Hinson, of Noah Hayes Road, has a Sept. 10 court date to
face a misdemeanor count of interfering with emergency communication,
dating back to Oct. 17, 2017.
The Federal Communications Commission has issued a $39,278 fine
against Hinson, citing intentional misuse of a local public-safety radio
communications network in violation of the Communications Act of 1934.
The FCC said Hinson impersonated first responders in unauthorized radio
communications on Surry County’s licensed public-safety frequency.
In a written order against Hinson, the FCC said the incident started
with a residential fire alarm being triggered within the Westfield fire
district. A 911 dispatcher put out a call for service to the Westfield
Volunteer Fire Department.

ATLANTA (FOX 5 Atlanta) – FOX 5 News broke a story back in June about numerous complaints regarding how the head of Atlanta’s 911 system treated operators including denying them bathroom breaks. Thursday, new developments emerged in that story.
FOX 5 News has learned the city has replaced Angela Barrett and other members of her team.

Air Methods, a provider of medical air services, will close its San
Antonio communications center used to dispatch emergency aircraft.
In an emailed statement, the Englewood, Colorado-based company
said it will handle dispatches for its San Antonio-area helicopters and
planes via its communication center location in Omaha, Nebraska.

The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES)
today announced an important step forward in making the state better
prepared to assist those in need during emergencies and natural
disasters.
Cal OES has selected four contractors (Atos, CenturyLink, NGA 911,
and Synergem Technologies) to partner with Cal OES in upgrading
California’s outdated 9-1-1 system to a Next Generation 9-1-1 platform.
The effort to modernize the 9-1-1 system across the state will introduce
proven state-of-the-art technology to ensure California is better
prepared to assist those in need during emergencies and natural
disasters.

The call quickly escalated as the dispatcher sought more information. A
commotion could be heard as the woman relayed his questions to people in
the background. She appeared to know the child, and told the dispatcher
that her name was Milliani Robertson, the same name given days later by
a man who said he was the girl’s father.
“But I don’t want to bust the window,” she said. “But bust the window?”
aid the dispatcher: “Listen, if you are saying the baby is turning blue
and it’s been in there since 9 a.m., we don’t care about the window.”

TWIN FALLS — When you’re
faced with an emergency and need to call 911, you need someone to pick
up. But those on the other end of the line are facing their own
emergency.
Next
week, Twin Falls will have only eight dispatchers on staff. Any less
than that, and it’s not possible to adequately operate the center,
Director Tami Lauda said.
