Interim Police Chief Danny Baker in a Facebook post on Saturday morning
explained why he did not publicly denounce former dispatcher Donna
Reneau during a Thursday news conference about Reneau’s Aug. 24 911 call
with Stevens in her final moments, saying she “knew she messed up” in
what police called a “callous and uncaring”-sounding call before Stevens
drowned inside her vehicle.
While Baker in his post was
frustrated with Reneau’s choice of words and remorseful over Stevens’
death, he described Reneau as a “good, decent human being who has saved
countless lives in the last five years” and said “it is so unfortunate
that her entire career will be defined by this single incident.”

The director of D.C.’s Office of Unified Communications is weighing
in on how long it took dispatchers to send firefighters to battle a
deadly blaze two weeks ago.
Office of Unified Communications Director Karima Holmes told WTOP she is satisfied with how dispatchers handled the call.
“Overall, my thoughts about it is that there was no delay, no slow response,” Holmes said.

A groundbreaking ceremony of the new Holbrook Regional Emergency
Communications Center (HRECC) will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept.
10, at the Holbrook Public Safety Building, 300 South Franklin St.
The public may attend the groundbreaking ceremony, Director of Communications Stephen Hooke stated.
The
planned 5,967 square-foot expansion will provide space for up to 12
dispatch consoles and dramatically increase the equipment room space
available for any future equipment upgrades.

Macomb County’s flashy, modern communications center was plagued over
the past three months by air and odor issues that sickened dispatchers
and forced the transfer of the operation to Warren for weeks at a time.
About
15 to 18 dispatchers at the Communications and Technology Center on
Groesbeck Highway in Mount Clemens sought medical treatment at different
intervals after getting sick due an unknown air issue that appeared to
be related to a roof-replacement project, according to officials and
Mount Clemens ambulance reports. Some dispatchers reported respiratory
problems, headaches and feeling feint.

Sarasota County, Fla., yesterday announced that it has selected
RapidDeploy to provide its 911 emergency communications center with a
new cloud-based computer-aided dispatch (CAD)—or cloud-aided dispatch—in
an effort to improve the center’s flexibility, operations and security,
according to a county official.
Sarasota County 911 Director Sally Lawrence said moving her center’s
CAD system to the cloud from a fully on-premise environment is an
attractive proposition.
