The Mounties are looking to hire new dispatchers in British Columbia,
and they’re promising a “modernized and streamlined” application process
for new recruits.
On Wednesday, the B.C. RCMP announced the launch of a new dispatcher recruitment website, bcrcmp911.ca, which provides information about the job and the application process to prospective employees.

Dalton Fire Chief Todd Pangle honored Whitfield County 911 dispatcher
Nicole Talman with a Citizen Recognition Award at a recent meeting of
the Dalton Public Safety Commission.
“Our 911 dispatchers do a
great job helping to keep our community safe,” Pangle said, “and at (the
Aug. 27) meeting of the Dalton Public Safety Commission we were able to
honor one of them for her role in saving the life of a young child.”

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – On Wednesday, the Clearlake Police Department took a
key step in its plans to improve services to the community by beginning
its function as a primary public safety answering point.
Before
Wednesday, when individuals dialed 911 in the city of Clearlake, their
calls were routed to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Central Dispatch
for police matters and then transferred to the Clearlake Police
Department.
The circuitous process included delays and prevented
dispatchers from accessing automated caller location information,
including from cellular callers, with dispatchers having to then ask
more questions to know whether the call was for police or fire, the
latter being relayed to Cal Fire’s St. Helena dispatch.

In an emergency before firefighters, law enforcement, or EMS head out
to help it’s up to the men and women who work at the 911 center to calm
the caller down and get the right amount of first responders to the
aid.
911 calls can be anything from someone who needs help after falling to dealing with a suicide or a mass shooting.

Dispatching duties for the city of Worthington’s emergency services
will be performed by the Northwest Regional Emergency Communications
Center in Dublin starting in July 2020.
City councils in both of those cities have authorized their respective city managers to enter into a contract for the service.
The
NRECC is based in Dublin police headquarters and is a safety
communications agency partnership with police departments in Dublin,
Hilliard and Upper Arlington and fire departments in Upper Arlington and
Norwich and Washington townships.

PORTLAND, Ore. – After falling victim to thieves who stole her brand
new bicycle, a 12-year-old girl experienced an incredible act of
generosity from those who handled the theft case.
The girl called
911 after someone took her bike, which she had left locked outside a
Portland-area grocery store. Officer Dustin Lauritzon drove her home. He
was with her when she told her grandmother, who had been saving up to
buy the bike so the girl could ride to school.
