FORT SMITH, Ark. (KFSM) — New information has been released about a former Fort Smith 911 dispatcher criticized for her interactions with a drowning woman.
5NEWS has obtained an exit interview Donna Reneau had with the Fort
Smith Police Department four days after the incident. Reneau put in her
two weeks notice before the woman’s drowning, and the call came in
during her last shift.
When asked why she was leaving her position at the police department,
Reneau said she wanted to return to school. She also said another
reason for her leaving was she felt like there was no way to “move up”
within the department.

For the next two weeks, KamloopsMatters will be profiling a
BC Wildfire Service employee at the Kamloops Fire Centre. KFC
coordinates the wildfire response across south-central B.C., from Blue
River in the north to the U.S. border in the south, and from Bridge
River in the west to Monashee Mountains in the east. The fire centre
employs around 50 permanent staff and a large number of seasonal support
staff.
The goal of this 10-part feature is to give our readers a better
understanding and a bird’s-eye view of what happens at the centre, and
to put a face to the people who are behind the scenes and on the
frontlines.

Ravenna’s police department will be adding two full-time dispatchers
to its dispatch center, a move that officials say will eliminate the
need for staffers to regularly incur overtime.
Council voted
unanimously Tuesday to add the two staffers to the department to replace
four part-time dispatchers, who will have the opportunity to apply for
the new jobs.

The City of Springfield submitted documents in a lawsuit filed in
February claiming a police dispatcher was subjected to harassment and
discrimination.
The suit names the City of Springfield, mayor Debbie Wakefield,
former police chief James Smith, and SPD patrol officer Wesley Tingle as
defendants. It claims dispatcher Leticia Cano was subjected to
harassment and discrimination, and was retaliated against when she
reported the alleged conduct.

Ceremony to celebrate the passing of House Bill 1090.
HB 1090 reclassifies Texas 9-1-1
telecommunicators as first responders. The Lonestar State is the first
to reclassify its 9-1-1 telecommunicators and include them as first
responders alongside peace officers, firefighters, and emergency medical
personnel.

SPRING, Texas (KTRK) — It was just another day on the job for Ashton
Thompson, but on Tuesday morning he got a 911 call he will likely never
forget.
“I was surprised at how calm she was,” he said.
The
woman on the other end was trapped on the second floor of her home
after it caught fire. The smoke was spreading fast. Crews were on the
way.
“I was just hoping (the crews) got there faster than the fire did,” he said.
