Thursday, September 5, The North Central Texas Emergency Communications
District (NCT9-1-1) will host a 9-1-1 First Responder Commencement
Ceremony to celebrate the passing of House Bill 1090.
HB 1090 reclassifies Texas 9-1-1
telecommunicators as first responders. The Lonestar State is the first
to reclassify its 9-1-1 telecommunicators and include them as first
responders alongside peace officers, firefighters, and emergency medical
personnel.

SPRING, Texas (KTRK) — It was just another day on the job for Ashton
Thompson, but on Tuesday morning he got a 911 call he will likely never
forget.
“I was surprised at how calm she was,” he said.
The
woman on the other end was trapped on the second floor of her home
after it caught fire. The smoke was spreading fast. Crews were on the
way.
“I was just hoping (the crews) got there faster than the fire did,” he said.

Fannin
County, Texas – The regular meeting of Fannin County Commissioners
Court began with the call to order and established a quorum with all
members present.
Agenda
item two was the invocation, David Woodson introduced Chad Leutwyler,
from First Baptist Church of Leonard, who delivered the invocation.
Agenda item three was the Pledges of Allegiance which were led by Major James Manis.

In an emergency before firefighters, law enforcement, or EMS head out
to help it’s up to the men and women who work at the 911 center to calm
the caller down and get the right amount of first responders to the
aid.
911 calls can be anything from someone who needs help after falling to dealing with a suicide or a mass shooting.
The 911 call taker and dispatcher need to get the message across to
police and fire even on a day when hundreds are flooding the 911 lines.

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (TNN) – The first person you talk to during an emergency is now being classified as a first responder.
“I
think it’s been a long time coming,” said Lisette Renfroe, a Wichita
Falls public safety dispatcher. “We’re the first ones there, without
physically being there.”
Renfroe
and Carla Turner, the dispatch communications manager said they
appreciate the new law that’s classifying them as first responders
because for the longest time they were categorized as secretaries.

When a mother couldn’t get her
pregnant daughter to a hospital in time to deliver, a Rockdale County
911 dispatcher guided her through the delivery of her first grandchild
on the side of a road, Channel 2 Action News reported.
The baby was born on the Salem Road exit ramp off I-20 just after noon Sunday, the news station reported.
