Palm Beach Police to hire part-time officers, dispatchers

The Palm Beach Police Department is looking to hire part-time officers and dispatchers to lower overtime costs. Police Chief Nicholas Caristo told last month’s Public Safety Committee meeting that the part-timers would alleviate the overtime costs and fatigue on the existing staff.

He did not say how many part-time staffers would be hired, but “this is going to be at no additional cost to our 2020 budget,” he said.

Overtime costs for the police department have soared since President Donald Trump has been in office. The current fiscal year alone has racked up $13,769.50 in overtime pay during….
