It may have been much worse had it not been for the calmness of a
young 11-year-old girl who placed an important 9-1-1 call last summer.
On the afternoon of August 21, a fire broke out at the girl’s home in the 700 block of Charter Oak Street in South Pasadena.
At the time of the blaze, the home was being used as a licensed day care with six children inside.
While, Elsa Durrett’s mother, Denise, was ensuring that the children
were able to exit safely, Elsa made one of the initial 9-1-1 calls “and
was able to provide very accurate, detailed call information to the
dispatchers,” explained

Coordinating Council announced on Friday that Butler County Emergency
Communications has been awarded a grant to upgrade recording equipment
used in the 9-1-1 center.
“We were planning and budgeting to begin
recording more than just audio and capturing things like dispatcher
computer screens. This grant puts those plans years ahead of schedule,”
said Chris Davis, Director at Butler County Emergency Communications.

Maidencreek Township, PA — Since 2000, Maidencreek Township has only raised taxes twice: once in 2013, and again in 2015. But township officials say that the county’s passage of 9-1-1 costs to municipalities means a tax hike, perhaps a significant one, is likely in 2021 unless something changes.
“I feel like we’re paying twice,” supervisor Joseph Rudderow said.

Bellmead Communications Operator Kelsey Smith and Waco Police
Department Communications Operators Michael Blohm and Kim Thomas were
presented with Lifesaving Awards at Tuesday night’s city council for
their actions in handling an emergency call.
Bellmead police spokeswoman Lt. Brenda Kinsey says on the night of July 10, a man called 911 in hysterics, screaming for help.
Smith was first to take the call.

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) — When people think of first responders, the first people who come to mind are generally the firefighters, EMS, and police.
The Kanawha County Commission recognized Metro 911 dispatchers for their dedication and hard work.
But Thursday night, Kanawha County commissioners wanted to
remind people that those people who we never see on an emergency scene
also share that title.
A proclamation recognizing Metro 911 dispatchers
as first responders was a chance to put a spotlight on the men and women
who stay calm when life can be scary and hectic for the person on the
