This week, the Hawkins County Emergency Communications District, or E-911, is retraining dispatchers to be able to give step-by-step instructions for different first aid situations after it was discovered the dispatchers lacked required training.
A special called meeting of the HCECD Board was held on Sunday to authorize $10,000 to be paid to trainer Dorothy Cave to retrain all the dispatchers in Association of Public Safety-Communications Officials training. Whether it means restructuring the
current model or moving on to a different service provider altogether,
there may be changes afoot with how dispatch communication is handled
for local law enforcement, fire protection and emergency medical
services in the North Valley. Officials have been exploring their
options in recent weeks.
Gunnison Communications, managed by the
Gunnison Police Department, provides dispatch services for all agencies
in the valley, and all the entities that use it pay in a proportionate
share.

FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WDTV) — 911 dispatchers are now designated as first responders in Marion County.

The County Commission on Tuesday signed a resolution marking the designation.
Telecommunications workers are currently designated as clerical staff.
The resolution says 911 dispatchers make the same sacrifices as firefighters, law enforcement officers and EMS workers.
The designation puts them in the same category for all they do to serve their community.
