There’s more proof this (Wednesday) afternoon the 911 center in the
Nation’s Capital is incapable of performing its core mission of sending
the right help to the right location in a timely manner. In today’s
incident, DC Fire & EMS Department Engine 1 attempted to get two
additional engine companies and a battalion chief to assist with a
natural gas leak. Amid much confusion at the Office of Unified
Communications (OUC or 911 center), it took dispatchers approximately
seven minutes to alert the additional companies.

A judge has ruled that Douglas County is not liable for damages in a horrific case of domestic violence in which a woman was assaulted by her ex-boyfriend after he fatally shot her two brothers, and it took 40 minutes for 911 to pinpoint the location in west Omaha.
Julie Edwards sued the county for damages from the 2016 assault by Kenneth Clark. He attacked her after shooting her brothers, John and Jason Edwards, as they were removing her possessions from Clark’s house. John Edwards survived long enough to call 911…

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – It’s been a tough week for first responders in Metro Detroit and Saturday a group was honored for their life-saving actions.
A group of Shelby Township firefighters and a dispatcher were recognized for keeping a man alive through a heart attack. That man’s daughter was also honored for making all the right calls.
“Kind of speechless about it,” Mike Redford said.

Luke Wright, 24, who worked in for the East of England Ambulance Service (EEAS) in Norwich, died on Sunday, November 10.
He is one of three members of the EEAS who have died in the past two weeks.
Following the deaths EEAS staff are being offered support.
In memory of Mr Wright, his family have set up a JustGiving page to raise £3,500 towards his funeral…

PACIFIC NORTHWEST – We rely on 911 to provide help and be there at all times, but over the years that’s become a challenge.
Especially,
as the nation continues to see a shortage of 911 call takers. Several
call centers in Central Washington say they have been experiencing this
for years.
“911, what is the address of your emergency?”
When
you call 911 there is always someone on the other end of the line, no
matter the call, help is always provided. Even with call centers being
short staffed.
“Habitually there’s always been a storage,” said Brad Coughenour, SunComm 911 Communications director.
