911 dispatchers now recognized as first responders in Marion County (WV)

FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WDTV) — 911 dispatchers are now designated as first responders in Marion County.

The County Commission on Tuesday signed a resolution marking the designation.

Telecommunications workers are currently designated as clerical staff.

The resolution says 911 dispatchers make the same sacrifices as firefighters, law enforcement officers and EMS workers.

The designation puts them in the same category for all they do to serve their community.

Victim’s daughter calls 911 to ‘order a pizza’ to signal domestic violence’ (OR)

OREGON, Ohio (WTVG/Gray News) – A scary situation of alleged domestic violence ended with the suspected abuser in handcuffs, all because the victim’s daughter used an innovative approach to seeking help. She dialed 911, but instead of asking for police, she pretended to order a pizza, WTVG said.

The victim’s daughter said she used this tactic to keep the person who was hitting her mom in the dark that she was calling for help. That way, he wouldn’t run away before police got there.

Gordon 5th grader makes heroic 9-1-1 call during fire (AL)

GORDON, Ala. (WTVY) – A Gordon family is mourning the loss of its long-time family home after a fire left it shambles late last night.

Fortunately, they aren’t mourning the loss of any loved ones, thanks in part to an Ashford Elementary schooler.

“I saw a fire from all the way over there,” said Ashford Elementary Fifth Grader Brandon Hayes. “It was just high up, see how it is now? It wasn’t this bad, but still standing up”

Hayes said he could still see the fire every time he closes his eyes.
