‘Stranded’ visitor made honorary emergency dispatcher (AK)

March 9, Jean Murray came to Cordova to spend four weeks with her daughter. Three months later, that four-week visit is still going on, as Cordova has become a refuge from the coronavirus outbreaks and civil unrest that have manifested in parts of the Lower 48.

For Murray, the last few months have furnished an unexpected opportunity to connect with Cordova’s natural environment and its people…

Rep. Norma Torres, a Former 911 Dispatcher, Fights for Stronger Provisions in Police Reform Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. — House Democrats are in Washington Thursday readying a vote on what they describe as “sweeping” policing reform legislation. But this comes after the Senate Republicans failed to pass a bill of their own, throwing a wrench into congressional policing negotiations. Yet both parties have the same goal: to pass one of the most ambitious policing overhauls in decades.

On the House side, Ontario Democratic Rep. Norma Torres submitted a list for stronger provisions for the Justice and Policing Act of 2020. She pulled from her 17.5-year experience as a 911 dispatcher, where she connected people-in-need with law enforcement every day…

Top-of-the-line disinfecting device delivered to county 911 call center (MD)

The applicator portion of the device resembled a handheld vacuum cleaner, only instead of an intake designed to suck in surrounding air, the short nozzle on the business end of the device sent out a stream of fine, dry mist into the room… READ MORE

911 caller in car besieged by ‘protesters’ told ‘call city hall’ — literally (VA)

How much latitude do “protesters” deserve as we begin month two of the radical Left’s attempt to transform America by force? You’d think by now they would have worked some of the rage out of their systems, but no dice. The Left knows a good thing when they see it. And as long as liberal-run cities continue instructing the police to stand down, expect to see more unconscionable episodes like the one that played out recently in Fredericksburg, Va…

Volunteer for the 3D GIS Working Group

The NENA 3D GIS working group will produce a document that will define requirements and guidelines for handling of expression of caller location in three dimensions (X/Y/Z coordinates), including confidence and uncertainty. These guidelines will include methods to convert a height above ellipsoid (HAE) value to height about ground level (AGL) or floor level, so that the information is more meaningful in the field, as well as guidelines to construct GIS datasets that can handle three dimensional location data, such as road or building geometry…
