Melanie Bailey is the Public Safety Communications Manager for the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office. “We get a variety of calls anywhere from medical to accidents with injuries,” Bailey said.

(La Porte, IN) – A baby was delivered over the phone here in La Porte County. It was the first phone delivery for 911 dispatcher Melissa Elder. She gave instructions on what to do with the baby on its way.
La Porte County E-911 director Steve Alt said the dispatcher used her training to give instructions on delivering the baby over the phone and ABC57 out of South Bend plans to do a news story about the effort…

The Emporia Police 911 Communications Center has implemented the ability to Text-to-911 during an emergency. Text-to-911 service will be available for those individuals who cannot safely make a voice call to 911 in an emergency. This will be a valuable service to the deaf and hard of hearing community.
Testing for Text-to-911 has been completed in Emporia and is available with plans from AT&T, Sprint, & Verizon Wireless. Text-to-911 may not be available outside of the City of Emporia. If a text is made to 911 where that service is not available, a message will be sent back to the phone advising the customer to make a voice call… READ MORE

The Dallas Police Department needs to hire more civilian employees in its communications division, divert more non-emergency 911 calls to other agencies and amend some of its dispatch procedures so the call center can operate more efficiently, according to the consulting firm KPMG.
Continued staffing shortages at DPD caused by non-competitive pay and attrition have led to falling performance levels at the 911 call center, and the pandemic has only exacerbated this. When the center is fully staffed, 99 people are taking calls. Their goal is to be able to answer 90% of the calls in 10 seconds or less.
