Georgia’s first responders are getting a major boost in their wireless communications with the addition of new, purpose-built FirstNet(link is external) cell sites supporting 11 counties across the state. Plus, high-quality Band 14 spectrum has been added to more than 1,300 sites across the state. Band 14 is nationwide, high quality spectrum set aside by the government specifically for FirstNet. Text-to-9-1-1 now available in Placer County (CA)

Sending a text to 911 is now available in Placer County. Text-to-9-1-1 is available to Placer residents and individuals traveling through the county.

According to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, the text function provides a life-saving option to speech- and hearing-impaired residents, and individuals in situations where a voice call is too dangerous.

Messages should be a brief description of the type of help needed and the location of the emergency. The message will then be routed to a nearby dispatch center, allowing dispatchers with the Sheriff’s Office and Auburn Police Department to communicate via text to ask questions and provide instructions…
