911 Operator / Dispatcher
The City of Galena Park Police Department is accepting applications for a full-time Emergency Services Dispatcher position. The hourly salary range is $17.29 – 18.13 per hour. Dispatchers direct calls for emergency and non-emergency services including Police/Fire/EMS and after-hours calls for other city departments.
Applicants must be available to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. Qualified applicants will be able to multi-task and remain calm in stressful situations. Strong communication skills and clear diction are required. Other required skills include, but are not limited to typing (35 WPM), operation of a radio console, telephone, computer, and related communications equipment. BATH — Tim Marshall has seen a little bit of everything during his near-quarter century in the Steuben County Emergency Services program, managing local disaster scenes, aiding relief efforts at the World Trade Center in the aftermath of 9/11, and leading the local response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

FAYETTE, Iowa (KWWL) – The city of Oelwein no longer has its own 911 dispatch center. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office now handles all emergency calls for the entire county.
“Actually I think it’s going very smooth,” Fayette County Sheriff Marty Fisher said.
Dispatchers have been taking calls from Oelwein since June. There are seven full-time employees that will soon turn into nine.
Adding Oelwein, one of the largest cities in the county has doubled the workload for dispatchers at the county level.
“We saw probably here, for Fayette County, would be about 2,500 emergency calls. Oelwein and their dispatch had approximately 2,300,” Sheriff Fisher said…

ELLSWORTH – Pierce County 911 dispatcher and Jailer Sgt. Sandy Larson is retiring after 36 years with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department; her official last day is Aug. 4.
Larson started dispatch and working in the original jail when the two operations, dispatch and jail duties, were in the same building location adjacent to the courthouse. She would do both jobs during her shifts and the days would consist of many responsibilities and long hours.
After the new sheriff’s department/jail opened on Overlook Drive and the dispatch and jail split, she decided to continue with just being a Jailer Sergeant, where she was responsible for looking after and taking care of the inmates at the county jail…(WI)

RALEIGH – The Federal Communications Commission officially awarded and designated innovation zone status to an existing site in and nearby North Carolina State University on Thursday.
Innovation zones are created so that qualified licensees — such as North Carolina State University, which operates the existing site that was a part of the Platforms for Advanced Wireless Research (PAWR) program funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and a consortium of 35 wireless companies — can test advanced technologies beyond the boundaries of a college or university campus or laboratory facility, the FCC said.
