Alexandria, Va. – The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International has recently launched an update to the APCO Communications Training Officer (CTO) course. This course provides comprehensive training to experienced telecommunicators on the roles and responsibilities of CTOs in running an agency’s one-on-one training program. Previous editions of the CTO program have been implemented in hundreds of agencies nationwide. Two versions of the updated course are available: CTO 6th Edition and CTO 6th Edition Instructor. According to the Van Buren Township Dispatch and the Public Safety Department, many wireless carriers will discontinue 3G wireless connections in 2022.
Older style 3G models of Tracfones, flip phones, Jitterbugs, etc. will be discontinued as early as January 2022.

The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office will soon implement a technology software that promises to improve dispatch response to people in distress.
A contract with Central Square Technologies will cost the county $638,723. The Cleveland County Board of Commissioners approved the allocation at its Monday meeting.
“The Sheriff’s Office needed a database that would be an all-encompassing system. Currently, we are operating out of multiple systems which means duplicating work and loss of valuable time,” Sheriff Chris Amason said in a prepared statement.
Ultimately the service will mean the county saves money, District 1 Rod Cleveland said, noting the county streamlines services offered by computer-aided dispatch and jail management software. It also “functions on a standardized protocol for all other law enforcement” in Oklahoma including Norman police, he said…

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced today the 50 members of the reestablished Communications Security, Reliability, and Interoperability Council (CSRIC), which will be co-chaired by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).
In April, the FCC announced it would reestablish the CSRIC, making this the FCC’s eighth charter of the council. The CSRIC serves as a Federal advisory committee that makes recommendations to the Commission “to improve the security, reliability, and interoperability of the nation’s communications systems,” according to the FCC.
“The FCC’s CSRIC is one of the nation’s most impactful cybersecurity partnerships,” said FCC Acting Chairwoman Rosenworcel. “But in recent years this public-private collaboration has faced criticism that its membership gave private companies an outsized voice. Today, we take steps to right that ship.” …
