FCC formally designates Huawei and ZTE as national security threats

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on Tuesday formally designated Chinese telecommunications groups Huawei and ZTE as national security threats, blocking them from accessing FCC funds.

Frightened drivers call 911 over protesters threatening, ‘surrounding’ them. One dispatcher replies, ‘We were told by our mayor to stand down.’ (VIDEO) (OH)

Drivers in downtown Columbus, Ohio, called 911 last week saying protesters were surrounding and threatening them, WSYX-TV reported.

The station played audio of one frightened woman who told a dispatcher that protesters were “laying” on her vehicle.

A male 911 caller said, “I’m being threatened. I want the police here now. They’re surrounding my car. They’re blocking traffic. The police need to protect me,” WSYX reported…

Paxton has moved to regional dispatch (MA)

PAXTON — As of 10 a.m. Monday, June 22, all Paxton Emergency Communication services were transferred to the Wachusett Regional Emergency Communication Center in Holden.

All 911, emergency and non-emergency calls will be answered by a dispatcher at the Regional Center and dispatched to the appropriate personnel in Paxton. There will be no change in emergency services provided to Paxton residents…

EARS TO THE WORLD: Ham radio operators complete 24-hour Field Day exercise (IN)

This past weekend marked the annual Field Day Exercise, for which amateur radio operators — commonly known as ham operators — set up temporary stations in public locations to showcase the science and skill of amateur radio. The event has been taking place every year since 1933.

The annual Field Day event serves as a sort of stress test for amateur radio operators, Reeves said. “If you’re called out in an emergency, you are probably going to have to do this — set up a camp that’s self-contained using generators,” he said.
