St. Louis County hopes artificial intelligence will reduce wait times for 911 calls (MO)

The St. Louis County Police Department has tapped artificial intelligence technology to reduce 911 wait times for county residents.

“We are trying to provide prompt, efficient and accurate service to first responders in the community,” said Brian Battles, the administrative specialist for the department’s Bureau of Communications.

Recognizing the Professionals Who Answer Our 911 Calls—National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week 2023 FCC

I’ve visited dozens of 911 call centers across the country over the years, and each time I am impressed with the dedication, skill, and professionalism of public safety telecommunicators, many of whom manage their community’s 911 calls amid disasters that also affect their own families.

It’s National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, when we honor the hard-working professionals who answer our 911 calls and dispatch police, firefighters, and paramedics to assist us during emergencies.

FirstNet Authority Board member Renee Gordon examines the intersection of FirstNet and 9-1-1

9-1-1 serves at the nexus of public safety communications—which is why the 9-1-1 community has always been important to our work at the FirstNet Authority. 

A prominent leader in the 9-1-1 community—Renee Gordon, Director of the Emergency Communications Center (ECC) in the City of Alexandria, Virginia—recently joined the FirstNet Authority Board. Renee has led some particularly innovative efforts in remote 9-1-1 operations and in regionalizing ECCs. We asked Renee about the current and future state of 9-1-1, the role of FirstNet in the ECC, and her priorities while serving on the FirstNet Authority Board.
