Manchester FD, AMR roll out upgrades to city’s 9-1-1 EMS system (NH)

MANCHESTER — City fire officials and staff at American Medical Response this week are rolling out additional advanced life support (ALS) capabilities, and improvements to Manchester’s 9-1-1 Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system designed to shorten response times and reduce the need for mutual aid during periods of high demand.

According to Manchester fire officials, calls to Manchester’s EMS system requiring mutual aid ambulances represent less than 1% of all requests for service in the Queen City. Officials expect improvements launching this week to decrease that number even further…

New 911 Texting System (CA)

Beginning at 7 a.m. on December 10, 2020, the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office will implement a new 911 Texting System, which will allow Tulare County residents to text 911 instead of calling, if they are unable to do so in the case of an emergency. 

The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office has been working with AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon networks to ensure that the new 911 Texting System is available to all county residents, regardless of their mobile carrier. 

Incoming 911 texts will be answered in the same way 911 calls are currently answered, and will immediately be transferred to the most appropriate first responder agency…

Dec. 9, 2020 – Gainesville Fire Rescue’s (GFR) Chief Jeffrey Lane has been awarded the prestigious Chief Harlin R. McEwen Public Safety Broadband Communications Award (Harlin McEwen Award) for his outstanding leadership and contributions to advancing broadband communications for public safety personnel across the nation. 

The First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet Authority) announced the award today at its quarterly Board meeting. The award was created in honor of Chief (ret.) Harlin R. FCC approves Huawei ‘rip and replace’ program, but funding MIA

WASHINGTON – The Federal Communications Commission today adopted rules to implement the Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Act of 2019, further protecting the security of the United States and the safety of U.S. communications networks.

Specifically, the Second Report and Order approved today requires the Commission to publish a list of communications equipment and services determined to be a risk to national security that has been identified either by (1) executive branch interagency bodies with appropriate national security experience; (2) the Department of Commerce pursuant to its authority under Executive Order 13873; (3) Congress in the John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019, or (4) U.S. national security agencies. Once Congress appropriates funding, eligible telecommunications carriers that receive universal service funding to provide service in remote areas of the country must remove such equipment or services from their networks and properly dispose of it…
