Council considers moving 911 dispatchers, purchasing new desks (OH)

ZANESVILLE – Council had its first hearing on Monday night of an ordinance authorizing the purchase of new dispatch desks for the city’s emergency services. Installation of the new desks would involve moving the dispatch center to a new location in the city’s public safety building. 

“We are in the process of rebuilding the dispatch center and moving it to a safer location upstairs where the detective bureau used to be,” the city’s Public Safety Director Doug Merry told council… 

Newton Town Councilwoman-Elect Retires from Dispatcher Job After 30 Years (NJ)

NEWTON, NJ—The Town of Newton is losing a dispatcher but gaining a town council member.  Michelle Lozier-Teets, had her last day at her part-time job as a dispatcher for the Newton Police Department on Sunday, December 27 after almost 30 years.  She will be sworn in as a Councilwoman in a few days.

Lozier-Teets began her career with the Newton Police Department in August 1992. “I had a few friends at the time in Law Enforcement and at the suggestion of one friend I applied to be a Communications Operator,” she said…

Hanover to join Regional Old Colony Communications Center in Duxbury (MA)

HANOVER — By the middle of next year, 911 calls in Hanover will be routed to the regional dispatch center in Duxbury.

Hanover selectmen still have to approve an agreement with the Regional Old Colony Communications Center in Duxbury, slated for their Jan. 4 meeting. Hanover Fire Chief Jeff Blanchard said it’s the right decision for the town as the number of calls has increased and the equipment in the town dispatch center becomes obsolete and repairs become more costly as the equipment is no longer manufactured… READ MORE

Nashville blast impacts Alabama 9-1-1, retailers, cell customers (AL)

The Christmas Day explosion in downtown Nashville has caused a ripple effect as far south as Birmingham, Alabama. The blast, being investigated as a deliberate act by the FBI and ATF, occurred in front of a AT & T facility. The T-Mobile cell service company said on Twitter that service disruptions include Alabama, Louisville, Nashville, Knoxville, and Atlanta.
