Wyoming County will receive $5.9 million to build new towers to assist with upgrading its emergency communications capabilities, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced Thursday.
A total of more than $29 million in grant funding has been awarded to Wyoming and four other counties in the state – Chenango, Putnam, St. Lawrence and Ulster – to help support a variety of communications projects. They include the construction of new radio towers, securing and updating existing infrastructure, as well as upgrades to local 911 call centers…

The Towns of Acton and Concord, as well as both towns’ police and fire departments, wish to provide the community with an update on their joint effort to study the feasibility of regionalizing both towns’ emergency dispatch operations.

A switch from analog to digital 911 systems has caused problems statewide, and Gunnison County’s emergency telephone authority warns that government and business offices should check their phone systems to see if they need to remedy their 911 connection, too.
All 911 Centers in the State of Colorado have been required to migrate from the legacy 911 system, which is an analog system, to an IP-based digital system called the ESInet (Emergency Services IP Network).
