Orange County’s Emergency Communications Center is preparing to add powerful new features to its 911 services in the form of NextGen 911. The system allows dispatchers to receive texts, images, videos and other vital information from callers during an emergency situation.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Buffalo man has admitted making a false 9-1-1 call that led to five people being hurt, including a police officer.
William Gray, 60, pleaded guilty to one count of falsely reporting an incident.

San Antonio 9-1-1 dispatchers are using 9-1-1 video calls to help cut down on unnecessary ambulance runs.
According to WOAI-TV, the new system works like this: Callers who don’t appear to be in a life-threatening situation are transferred to a special clinical dispatcher. That dispatcher then sends the patient a link for a smart phone app called Good Sam, and both sides are able to talk via a video connection.
Along with the allowing the dispatcher to observe the patient’s appearance and condition, the app also provides vital medical information.

Ithaca College has launched a new app component of its emergency notification system, the Rave Guardian mobile app.
The app is an extension of the college’s Alert Emergency Notification System and allows users to get push notifications on their cellphones from the college, as well as access to emergency resources. The app is available for students, faculty and staff at the college and requires a college email address to register for an account. The Rave Guardian services are available through cellular service or with an internet connection, a system that allows campus community members who are on or off campus to use the services…
