The Pettis County Commission announced that as of Wednesday, Pettis County Joint Communications (PCJC) is now the primary operational emergency Public Safety Answering Point for Pettis County, consolidating the efforts between the Sedalia Police Department and Pettis County Sheriff’s Office communications units.

A news release states that while the primary function of PCJC is to process emergency or 911 calls for service, it also processes and handles non-emergency requests for police, fire, and medical service under nationally accepted protocols.

Lewiston, Auburn police move to encrypted radio system, silencing civilian scanners (ME)

Yes, it’s true. Police scanners no longer pick up transmissions from some local police departments.  

Lewiston and Auburn police departments have gone to a new encrypted radio system that cannot be picked up by the regular police scanners owned by many civilians. 

Paul LeClair, director of the Lewiston-Auburn 911 Communications Center, explained it this way: 

“The 800MHz radio system — Auburn and Lewiston — police frequencies are 100-percent encrypted,” LeClair said Thursday, as the system unrolled. “The translation is that LA911 will ensure the police frequencies remain secure and encrypted by managing the new radio system technology. Amid 911 delays, St. Louis mayor launches plan to combine fire, police dispatch centers (MO)

ST. LOUIS — In response to months of complaints about St. Louis 911 callers being left on hold, Mayor Tishaura O. Jones announced plans Thursday to combine the city police and fire emergency call centers to eliminate a system that, Jones says, has created a 911 bottleneck in the city for years.

The Jones administration announced Thursday that the city aims to move its fire and EMS department 911 dispatchers to the police department’s downtown call center by October.
